Enterprise Risk Management & Insurance Programs

To protect the university against liability assumed by contract, the guidelines are established in APPM 10.2.7 - Insurance Requirements - Contractors to avoid or reduce the university's exposure to loss. 

Departments must request a certificate of insurance from their contractors / suppliers / vendors (vendor) or subcontractors whenever they provide services or work on the University’s behalf. This is essential to protect the University from potential liability arising from the contractor’s actions.

Whether it’s construction work, maintenance services, product delivery, serving food, moving or relocating furnishings, or other specific service work, requesting a COI ensures that any vendor the University works with has the necessary insurance coverage to mitigate risks associated with their work.

The University is a member of the Michigan University Self Insurance Corporation.  Insurance requirements for Wayne State work are based on the products or services provided.  To determine the proper level of insurance, download the most current version of the M.U.S.I.C recommendations as shown below:
