Procurement & Strategic Sourcing is pleased to announce that the Wayne State has been awarded the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) 2015 Corporation of the Year - Educational and Government Entities Award. This is the fourteenth time the University has been so recognized since 1989. This results from employing a continuous improvement process to increase both the level of expenditures and the number of qualified minority owned and operated enterprises with which the University does business. |
The MMSDC Ambassadors Championing Excellence (ACE) Awards Program celebrates the business relationships between major corporations and minority-owned firms. The MMSDC honors major corporations for their commitment to supplier diversity as well as for purchasing products and services from minority-owned businesses. Through a wide variety of activities, the University has been successful in this effort.
The University is a recognized leader in the manner and level of effort extended to enhance and support minority owned and operated enterprises. The University:
- Hosts an annual Detroit-Based and Diversity Owned Businesses Procurement Conference (27th annual conference was held August 13, 2015)
- Participates annually in the Michigan Minority Procurement Conference (May)
- Works closely with the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) and other diversity-based organizations.
While the above information is by no means all inclusive, it provides a substantial overview of the attention given to this important effort, which the University takes very seriously.
We partner with the MMSDC in the following areas:
- Project ONE
- Annual Award Dinner
- Signature Events Planning Committee
- MMSDC Chairman's Scholarship Gala
"Recognition at this level comes from a collaboration of efforts from several areas" says Ken Doherty, AVP for Procurement. "We are fortunate to have support from Facilities Planning & Management, Business Operations, Computing & Information Technology, and the Office of Equal Opportunity".
Congratulations to all the Corporations, Institutions, and Minority Businesses that were nominated in 2015, and a special congratulations to those that were also award recipients.
