Insurance Guidelines for Catered Events
The following rules/guidelines indicate when a Certificate of Insurance is required for the event.
- If a caterer is coming onto our campus property to prepare and serve food, or have prepared the food off-campus, but are coming onto campus to set up dining service and serve the food, a certificate of insurance (C of I) is required from the caterer.
- If a caterer is providing food and dining services to a venue that WSU has an agreement or contract to rent space and/or area, a C of I is required.
- If a university employee or university alumnus is holding a “university sponsored event” at their private residence and the event is paid for with university funds, any catering services provided at the residence will require a C of I.
The University requirements related to Certificates of Insurance can be found here: https://policies.wayne.edu/appm/10-2-7-insurance-requirement-contractors
For off-campus venues that serve food as a function of their establishment, i.e., restaurant, hotel, etc., no Certificate of Insurance is required.
