Subject: Express Shipping Services
Date: January 2, 2013
Procurement and Strategic Sourcing, along with Business Operations, conducted a Request for Proposal for Express Shipping Services. We are pleased to announce that UPS has been selected as the successful supplier.
For many years, UPS has been WSU's preferred Express Shipping Service source and was able to provide a proposal to the University under a State of Michigan MiDEAL contract. UPS will now be Wayne States main source for your overnight/ ground shipping and hazardous materials shipping needs, at a great price. Access is obtained in the same manner as previously, via the Super Savings Opportunities on our website, www.purchasing.wayne.edu. Access to this page requires a WSU login ID and Password. Once there, scroll down to UPS, and you will find a page with detailed instructions on how to access UPS's website and how to obtain a logon and password.
Some of the many benefits of this program are listed below:
- Simple to use;
- UPS will continue to accept both Procurement Card and IRB orders
- Scheduled pick up of outbound shipping
- At some future date, a WayneBuy alternative may be available
- More Zip Codes served for express shipments
- Best in reliability for services
- Ground, Air, Hazmat and International shipments are handled by the same pick-up driver
- Quarterly Training sessions for users to review UPS savings and advantages
Annual savings to the University community on an order per order basis for express shipping services are approximately 10-15 % over prices paid in 2011 and 2012 (before the State Contract).
It's still that simple. Place your order online, print and affix your shipping label, and drop the package at any of the conveniently placed UPS boxes around campus. Procard charges are processed immediately, and appear on your month end Procard Statement. IRB orders will be debited to the designated accounts at the end of the month.
Departments who have historically been using Federal Express are asked to discontinue using them and begin using UPS. Both Procurement and Business Operations can assist with any training that may be needed.
The system is limited to the purchase of outbound express shipping at this time. In the future, we may be able to expand this service to include inbound shipping at a substantial discount.
